A landing station is the shore facility where an undersea cable meets the terrestrial network. It houses the power-feeding equipment that drives the cable's optical repeaters and routes traffic onward to domestic networks. Each country page on this map lists the landing stations that serve it.
What happens when a submarine cable breaks?
Most faults come from anchors, trawling gear, or undersea landslides. Traffic is rerouted over the remaining cables, and a specialized repair ship splices the damaged section — a single break is usually repaired within one to four weeks. The failure simulation on each analysis page shows how countries would be affected if a cable went dark.
